Our health and nutrition program aims to improve the lives of children and families with an integrated approach on healthcare.
Throughout many years ANF has targeted school centers to deliver multiple educational campaigns as it is easier for children to learn and acquire new healthy habits.
MEET JANELLY: A GIRL IN SEARCH OF WATER
5-year-old, Janely lives in the rural community of Montaña de la Olla, part of the Dry Corridor of Nicaragua. Every day, little Janely walks up to 3 hours with her grandmother to fetch water—the arduous task sometimes forces her to miss school.
SIKSAYARI: AN ISOLATED COMMUNITY THAT FOUND HOPE
Siksayari is an indigenous community located in Nicaragua’s Northern Atlantic Autonomous Region. With more than 3,200 inhabitants living in extreme poverty, Siksayari has a 76.3% of poverty rate.
In 2017, ANF noticed that Siksayari lacked access to decent and basic necessities for their population. Formal education, public infrastructure, electricity, healthcare, and clean water were missing in this vulnerable community.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN NICARAGUA’S EDUCATION

As a teacher, Eddy´s biggest difficulty was to continue teaching under deplorable conditions.
When the community was notified of ANF´s support, the school´s rehabilitation process began as a dream they never imagined accomplishing.
IRLANDA VELÁSQUEZ: AN EMPOWERED MOTHER
As a single mother of 3 with no support, Irlanda Velásquez has worked very hard to provide for her family. Throughout 9 years Irlanda and her children moved around to different places as they could not afford a place to live in.
HOLIDAY SEASON WITH FOOD SECURITY
Ana María´s family struggled to bring food to their table. Thanks to ANF´s Higuaje Food Security Project, Ana María was able to establish a bio-intensive garden, received a chicken coop, and a water harvesting system.
