IRLANDA VELÁSQUEZ: AN EMPOWERED MOTHER

As a single mother of 3 with no support, Irlanda Velásquez has worked very hard to provide for her family. Throughout 9 years Irlanda and her children moved around to different places as they could not afford a place to live in. With no money to pay the rent, humiliated and kicked out on many occasions, Irlanda had to ask for shelter so her kids could have a place to sleep at night.

Thanks to ANF and Food For The Poor, Irlanda´s dream will soon become a reality as one of the beneficiaries of El Tunal Project in Ocotal. Irlanda will soon receive her new two-bedroom house that will protect and shelter her family.

With great enthusiasm and an empowering attitude, when Irlanda received the great news, she was determined to help with the construction of her home. Irlanda excavates, mixes sand and cement and sleeps in an improvised plastic tent so she can guard the construction material.

¨I want to thank ANF and all of the people involved in this project. Finally, I will be able to have a dignified and stable home to live in with my family¨.

Thanks to great friends and donors like you, this Christmas, Irlanda and her family will have joy and hope in their hearts as they await for their new home.
