Since mid-April 2018 Nicaragua, the country whose poor ANF has served for over 25 years, is undergoing a pivotal and perilous period of upheaval. The turmoil is unpredictable and violent. So far, over one hundred people have died and hundreds have been wounded.

Nicaragua is already the second poorest country in the western hemisphere, 30% of its population lives on less than $2 per day.
This level of poverty is only being exacerbated by the crisis unfolding throughout the country. Living conditions have worsened for everyone—but especially for the most vulnerable: the poor. Not only are more Nicaraguans are at risk of falling into poverty, but, for those that are already poor, poverty is at risk of turning into extreme poverty.

By virtue of its founding principles, ANF is an apolitical organization. We serve the poor, no matter the political inclination.

ANF has created the Nicaragua Crisis Fund to support ANF’s mission and help those affected by this political upheaval, providing humanitarian aid to those in need. Every single day, the situation changes, and those in need of help changes, too. Every dollar donated to the Nicaragua Crisis Fund will be carefully allocated to help those who need it most as the situation changes. Specifically, the funds will be used to support our associated local partners that work toward poverty alleviation. (Learn more about ANF here.)
